Yip Cheong Fun (1903–1989) was one of the most important pioneer photographers in Singapore. In 1984, Yip was awarded the Cultural Medallion for his achievements and contributions to Photography.
In this talk, the photographer Sha Ying and Dr Andrew Yip, son of the late Mr Yip, will introduce the Chinese book, Through the Lens of Yip Cheong Fun. They will discuss the aesthetics behind Yip’s works and share personal stories about him.
Participants can also expect to be transported back to Singapore’s olden days through Yip’s photo exhibition at the library.
At the talk, there will also be a Singapore-themed pop-up store featuring Chinese and English titles on pioneer personalities from Singapore’s pre-independence years, such as Wu Lien Teh, Aw Boon Haw and Han Suyin.
