The Witness of Poetry: Emotions, Trauma and Healing

Date & Time

9 Mar 2018
2.30pm - 4.30pm

The Arts House
Council Room
1 Old Parliament Lane

How have poets engaged with their personal history, and rendered particular experiences through verse? How do trauma, testimony and longing find a voice through lyric and narrative? How does one also gain empathy through such art creation?

In this workshop, poets Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé and Eric Tinsay Valles will help participants discover how poetry may offer a powerful means of healing, through excavating buried emotions and expressing them in crafted language. Indeed, the truth of experience may articulate itself through captivating image and sound.

In looking to the lessons of the past, this workshop also investigates how contemporary poets might at once celebrate the personal and voice the concerns of the present.

This workshop is organised as part of Textures.

Spaces are limited to a maximum of 20 pax.

About the Organiser

Squircle Line Press is a boutique press, happy to spend an inordinate amount of time and attention on the finer details of putting a book together. We love every kind of narrative conscious of its craft. We love everything crisp. Like a caesura. We love everything figural – the leitmotif. We love everything of a literary weltanschauung.
