A young man hatches elaborate schemes and takes on various disguises in order to win the hand of his lady love. Will his efforts pay off? Or will his girlfriend’s family stand in the way? Will their marriage ever take place?

The romantic comedy Maappillai Vandhaar (Here Comes the Groom), by the late Se Ve Shanmugam, will be a laugh-out-loud riot that will take the audience on a trip down memory lane to the fabulous 1960s. Shanmugam’s plays are filled with witty dialogue and imaginative scenarios, earning him the moniker, the Bernard Shaw of Singapore.

Avant Theatre has incorporated his most memorable plays into this full-length play, as it celebrates the legacy of his works by making sure that his humour stay in audience’s minds long after watching the show.

The play is in Tamil (no English subtitles).
